Melissa writes, directs, and performs stories and teaches people about storytelling.
In her freelance practice and as a lead instructor with The Moth's Community, Education and Corporate programs, Melissa has taught storytelling to exonerees at the Innocence Project, individuals living with disabilities at Upstream Arts, Team leaders at GOOGLE, volunteer coordinators at New York Cares, mentors and mentees at Summer Search, ‘kindness ambassadors’ at Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, documentary filmmakers at the A+E Network, educators and administrators at Teacher’s College- Columbia University as well as storytellers at Muslim Writers Collective, Genentech, The Young Women’s Entrepreneur Conference, The Young Women’s Voices Festival, Mrs. Field’s Literary Society, Urban Resource Institute, Bronx Defenders, Center for Court Innovation, Rikers Island, SUNY Purchase, University of Puget Sound, Kingsborough Community College, and Lehman College.
She also teaches Communications and Theatre at CUNY: BCC and works as a teaching artist at BAM. Melissa is co-artistic director of ARTBARN, creating collaboratively generated, site-specific performance.
